Godzilla is always an attraction at any toy fair and his action figures are the hearth of that attraction. Although there also are action dolls, the later are distinctive in that they can be dressed. Boys prefer action figures and these are marketed for them because they portrait the traditional masculine representation. These figures are mainly made out of plastic or vinyl, are already clothed, and come in different poses. An armature or framework follows, which uses aluminum wires to create Godzilla backbone. The armature outlines the arms, legs and characteristics that create the desired pose. Then, a sculptor adds clay to the armature to give the basic desired shape and weight first, and then all the details the design calls for.
It all starts with a Godzilla prototype. Prototypes are created using techniques like clay modeling, aluminum wiring, and sculpting. The design of the prototype starts with a sketch of a proposed Godzilla character pose, and then clay prototypes are formed. Godzilla is designed with a dynamic, threatening pose, evil grimace, and plenty of well-crafted detailing.
The actual Godzilla Anime PVC, however, are mass produced. A mold is made based on the final prototype. Then the figures are molded to resins like ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), which is a hard plastic used for the body. The accessories, however, use a softer plastic like polyethylene or polypropylene. If the figures were to use capes, body suits or face masks, materials like nylon and rayon would most probably be used. A clean assembly process will leave no visible seams.
A very important part in a Godzilla action figure is the decoration with paint, usually acrylic paint. It should show beautiful finishes and movie accurate colors to help bring the beast alive on display. It is also possible to find figures with small electronic parts that provide lights and sound effects.
The final product, if of good quality, will be professionally assembled, fabulously painted, and ready to display Godzilla PVC figures.
