He-Man Action Figures and Other 1980's Toys

Without question, one of the most popular toys of the 1980s was the He-Man action figures collection. The collection rose to popularity in 1983 with the release of the He-Man television series that ran for two years. The full range of the He-Man toy figures collection is extensive. On its first release in 1983, the collection of He Man action figures included Skeletor, Beast Man, Blade, Blast-Attack, Buzz Saw Hordak, Clawful, Crocobite and Dinosorb.

In 1985, Mattel, the makers of He-Man Anime PVC, decided to expand the range by bringing He-Man's sister into the fray, She-Ra. She inspired her own range of He-Man action figures including Angella, Arrow, Blue Lightning, Bow, Castaspella, Catra and Clawdeen. But He Man and his companions were not the only toys that were popular in the 1980s. G.I. Joe, Thundercats and the Super Powers Collection were also big sellers.

Also popular in the 1980s, particularly in the States, were a range of toys called Transformers. These were basically toys that doubled as cars or robots that could transform into something else, usually a warrior or a weapon. There were few little boys in the early 1980s that didn't have one of the transformers.

The competition between these toys was fierce. Today many people have vast collections of all these toys including the He-Man PVC figures confirming their heartfelt and lasting appeal.

These figures come in many different styles and poses for collector's view before it was sold successfully to a buyer. All action figures must have a body part that moves especially on the head and arms to be able to strike a different pose together with the accessories that comes together with certain models such as the backpacks or weapons.

There are also many great places that sell these figures such as toy sections of local stores, websites that specialize in only figures, flea markets and garage sales. Some sellers might be selling off their unwanted old figures but you will never know if that is a vintage figure that you have been looking for.

Once you have your collections in place, it is important to plan on how to display all your figures for your viewing pleasures. Furniture stores would be the best place to get a beautiful cabinet or shelves with glass doors to display action figures in a specific location at home or even work place while it also keeps the figures from falling all over the place. Already in stores is a the Iron Man 2 Action Figure collection, with all sorts of cool variations like the Iron Man 2 action figures concept series and movie series, as well as the Iron Man 2 action figure Armor Tech Deluxe series. This set is sold mainly with collectors in mind and shouldn't really be sold to young kids. The toys in this set are Shockwave Mission, Negative Zone Mission, and Juggernaut Mission. A favorite of these is the Negative Zone edition, with detachable missile accessories. It looks great, and standing on it's included pedestal, this will look terrific on display.

The comic book range has five figures announced at this moment. They are the Original, Original War Machine, Stealth, Crimson Dynamo, and Classic Armor. A favorite in this set is the Original War Machine. Already a fan favorite, this toy looks absolutely spectacular. The detail is modeled not after the film character, but rather the character in the Marvel comic books. With fantastic weapons, War Machine looks incredible. The classic figure in a vivid yellow and red also looks great. Fans from the 1970's will really love to get a hold of this edition.

The Iron Man 2 Anime PVC Movie series will appeal to moviegoers and newer fans, and is what most collectors are going to jump on. War Machine will be hard to find in your local toy shop because it looks amazing. With some great detail and using the armor seen in the film, this toy displayed on your shelf will look great. The other toys in the Iron Man 2 Action Figure set look great too, like the Mark VI Armor with two variants, one with power glow and one with the suitcase. Also available are Red Vortex, Inferno Mission, and others. Again, there was no scrimping on detail when these toys were designed.

For the younger audience, there's also some additions to the Mighty Muggs and Super Hero Squad set to reflect the new armors from the film. The general Marvel Universe collection also has added a few more Iron Man 2 PVC figures toys to it's range to keep up with all the hype. This film will be hot, and the Iron Man 2 action figure toys already available are feeding the fan frenzy. Expect this to be the biggest thing in Super Hero movies since the first adventure!

This has made people to get a collection of this adults figures since now the action figures are not only meant for kids but adults love to collect them not to play with then but as a leisure pursuit and in order to gain emotional satisfaction.

When determining the worth of any action figure it all depends on the mobility and what type of person this figure has been made about, a pristine packaged solid toy will fetch more dollars compared to an open toy. This has influenced the price of most of these toys especially the solid toys of famous people. Most children obtain less fun when they play with a toy such as an Anime PVC that cannot move or is limited in mobility.

Due to this many people who collect these adult figures have to purchase two toys of every adult figure so that they can be able to keep one and allow the kids to play with the other. Some of the loved figures are those figures that engage in heroic activities such as batman and superman and the ninjas which most people love to collect either for the kids or for them to keep. Most PVC figures are not costly but their costliness increases with an increase in mobility of the toys.

A toy depicting a figure such as Barack Obama, or some of the Nobel Prize winners will fetch a lot of money in the near future since most adults would love to keep it as a memory, but most kids wouldn't love it because they are not going to have much fun playing with it.

Rock Music Action Figures - Plastic Noise

Over the past few years, the arena of licensed action figures has seen something of an influx of rock music related figures, with varying levels of success. These have proved to be a hit with many fans of the artists that companies have depicted, and an industry has been born to cater for the growing desire for sculpted plastic versions of famous musicians. The most obvious range that people will see on sale in collectibles outlets is of course the McFarlane range of licensed Elvis Presley figures. Thus far eight have been released, each showing the late rock n roller in a particular era of his career. Some have proved to be more popular than others, such as the Comeback 68 edition and Las Vegas edition, both of which have also surfaced in both 12 inch and commemorative versions as well as the regular clamshell-packed items.

Other early successes in the McFarlane range were the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison of The Doors, Ozzy Osbourne and arena legends Metallica (originally available as both single figures and an elaborate box set). More sets of KISS related Anime PVC also followed, including the perennially popular KISS ALIVE stage box set, which is still a strong seller to this day.

It does show that the demand is there for music related items other than posters and T shirts, and these companies have been bringing out wave up[on wave of figures to meet with demand. McFarlane even began making '3D album covers' of legendary albums from Led Zeppelin, the sex Pistols, Jimi Hendrix and more. They have created a new market for licensed collectible PVC figures, and music fans are now eagerly awaiting the next batch. A space in the market has been filled, and with 7 inch and 18 inch versions of various figures available, along with headknockers (think nodding dogs but sculpted to look like celebrities. Joey Ramone and Iron Maiden's Eddie are the biggies here) and all manner of other licensed items, there's plenty for fans to choose from.

The Beatles have also been a hit in plastic form, with 'Yellow Submarine' and 'Saturday cartoon' editions of the fab four being released. These items fill a need for items fans can display and pose. They give the fans the opportunity to own something physical of their idols without having to pay over the odds for the opportunity. Even Bon Jovi have got in on the act recently, with figures of Jon Bon Jovi himself and Richie Sambora finding their way onto the shelves. As long as fans want them, these collectibles will continue to be made.
