Collecting Action Figures - What's Behind This Modern Day Craze

Remember when you were a kid and your mom, dad, uncle, aunt or grandparent would take you to the toy store or some other leading big-box department store. As you rush towards the action figure aisle, your heart speeding in fervour as you make your means to this supernatural toy of imaginativeness.

What I'm really into, just like so many other grown men, are action figures associated to professional athletes. The detail in some of these pieces of new art are spectacular. They have a team jersey down to every tone of color. Currently manufacturers of action figures actually make licencing arrangements with companies who sponsor a specific athlete and professional sports teams. These are reflected in some action figures as well. I am a massive professional ice hockey fan, and really am a great fan of Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin has an endorsement deal with CCM, wearing a CCM helmet, gloves, hockey pants and skates. The Ovechkin doll that I have has all the logos in place just like the real Alexander Ovechkin when he takes the ice in the Verizon Center.

With the revitalization of sci-fi films and television, sci-fi Anime PVC have also been best-selling. This movement started out with the successful Star Wars franchise films. These love affairs with the figures were rekindled when the original trilogy and the new prequel trilogy were released about a decade ago. Original action figures were produced in celebration of these films. However this time the dolls were made with such detail and preciseness, it made accumulating these figures by grownups much more acceptable than in the past.

Being an artist of sci-fi and comic books he understood the detail that can be crammed into these PVC figures. When garnering action figures, you should collect as if they are fine pieces of art. You must not collect for investing purposes instead for the admiration of these works of art. If you like what you see then buy it. Even if it does not go up in value you can still delight in the aesthetics of your action figure.

Action Figure Market - What You Need to Know

An action figures is character figurine made of synthetic materials such as plastic. These figures are often based upon icons made popular by movies, games, television programs and comic books. During the first release of these figurines, they were often marketed to little boys who were fond of action thrills brought upon by media. Those ones that can be dressed are often referred to as action dolls which are pretty much different from those figures whose clothes are molded on and cannot be taken off.

Action figures for the TV series "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the future" were first made by Mattel back in 1987. The collection series of these figures became an instant hit, however, their success with these items were short lived.

Some materials such as glow in the dark plastics have been incorporated and used in various assortments back in the early 90's. Many advocates of these materials have produced Anime PVC we still know and love today. These include the "Ninja Turtles", "The Toxic Crusaders" and "The Swamp Thing" are just some of the popular characters ever made. Over time, manufacturers also have included color changing features to some of the characters that soon lead to such a craze.

Overtime the features of these have become more and more drastic. Some manufacturers even included punching action on dolls upon squeezing and combat voices that goes along with the action punches. They also have included other accessories such as toy guns with suction bullets that have become quite a commodity. The "Ninja Turtles' Wacky Action" series incorporated gears that caused motorized action of certain dolls like swimming or movement of the limbs. Battery powered PVC figures also came about two years after its release that have set a new trend on manufacturing action figures.

Today, there are toy stores that are found all over the net that cater to your action figure craze. You can find action figures with cool features beyond your wildest dreams. You can even find new ones that you probably didn't know about until you have set foot on the toy shops that offer cool figures with new freebies. You can even find the classic figures you loved out there that are considered to be rare items for collection.

He-Man Action Figures Collecting Guide

Since He-Man and his crew first appeared on the scene as toys and a comic series, the He-Man action figures have been a very collectible item. Today, the toys, television series and movies have made He-Man a bit of a legend and as a result his popularity continues to grow. Just check online. There are literally dozens of sites, mostly run by fans, dedicated to the legacy of He-Man. With each television series or movie, Mattel, the makers of He-Man, have launched a new selection of He-Man action figures and so the collecting goes on.

Without question, He-Man himself has enjoyed the most incarnations and remains the most collectible, but there is a wide variety of characters that make up the full family of He-Man Anime PVC. The first cartoon series appeared in 1983 and ran till 1985 and this inspired a new range of He-Man action figures that were considered innovative in their time. The cartoon, He-Man, was also considered revolutionary, as it was the first cartoon series that was accompanied with a range of toys.

The next range of He-Man action figures was inspired by She Ra, Princess of Power, who was He-Man's sister. This more feminine range of collectibles included Angella, Arrow, Blue Lightning, Bow, Castaspella, Catra and Clawdeen. These He-Man toy figures appeared between 1985 and 1987.

Besides He-Man himself, some of the PVC figures that were in the range included Battle Cat, He-Man's constant companion also known as Cringer; a selection of evil warriors which included Skeletor, Beast Man, Blade, Blast-Attack, Buzz Saw Hordak, Clawful, Crocobite and Dinosorb.

The next series which appeared in 1989 was called the New Adventures of He-Man and this new incarnation inspired its own range of He-Man action figures, albeit to a lukewarm response. Some of the figures in that collection included Artilla, the Battle Bird, Flipshot, Flogg, Hoove, Hydron, Karatti, Kayo, Lizorr and Nocturna. Then in 2002, to mark the new millennium, Mattel launched a new more modern range of He-Man action figures. These included Battle-Armor He-Man, Battle Armor Skeletor, Battle Cat, Battle Fish, Battle Glove Man-at-Arms, Battle Hawk and the Battle Ram Chariot.

He-Man Action Figures and Other 1980's Toys

Without question, one of the most popular toys of the 1980s was the He-Man action figures collection. The collection rose to popularity in 1983 with the release of the He-Man television series that ran for two years. The full range of the He-Man toy figures collection is extensive. On its first release in 1983, the collection of He Man action figures included Skeletor, Beast Man, Blade, Blast-Attack, Buzz Saw Hordak, Clawful, Crocobite and Dinosorb.

In 1985, Mattel, the makers of He-Man Anime PVC, decided to expand the range by bringing He-Man's sister into the fray, She-Ra. She inspired her own range of He-Man action figures including Angella, Arrow, Blue Lightning, Bow, Castaspella, Catra and Clawdeen. But He Man and his companions were not the only toys that were popular in the 1980s. G.I. Joe, Thundercats and the Super Powers Collection were also big sellers.

Also popular in the 1980s, particularly in the States, were a range of toys called Transformers. These were basically toys that doubled as cars or robots that could transform into something else, usually a warrior or a weapon. There were few little boys in the early 1980s that didn't have one of the transformers.

The competition between these toys was fierce. Today many people have vast collections of all these toys including the He-Man PVC figures confirming their heartfelt and lasting appeal.

The very small size is ranging in between 6mm to a larger 152mm. Action figures are a small size character made of plastic redesigned to represent many famous characters from movies and cartoons. These figures come in many different styles and poses for collector's view before it was sold successfully to a buyer. All action figures must have a body part that moves especially on the head and arms to be able to strike a different pose together with the accessories that comes together with certain models such as the backpacks or weapons.

There are also many great places that sell these figures such as toy sections of local stores, websites that specialize in only figures, flea markets and garage sales. Some sellers might be selling off their unwanted old figures but you will never know if that is a vintage figure that you have been looking for.

Once you have your collections in place, it is important to plan on how to display all your figures for your viewing pleasures. Furniture stores would be the best place to get a beautiful cabinet or shelves with glass doors to display action figures in a specific location at home or even work place while it also keeps the figures from falling all over the place.
